“Two new performance works will be the core of the exhibition: “The Listener’s Chair” and “Reminiscence”. “The Listener’s Chair” work had its premiere in Seoul at Ilmin Museum of Art in 2020. Everyone interested in sharing their story can take part in the project. This is how the artist invites the participants to get involved: “Please tell your story to someone or to the whole world about what you want to say or something that you have always wanted to say but couldn’t speak out before”. One will be able to record their statement anonymously in the arranged space in a speech room (a renovated telephone booth) that will be installed nearby the LAZNIA CCA building in Nowy Port or to send it by e-mail to krzeslosluchacza@laznia.pl. The recorded voices can be listened to in the gallery space, and each visitor will be asked to listen to the end of each speech they started. The second performative action and video entitled “Reminiscence” is the artist’s new work for this exhibition at LAZNIA CCA, which he intends to continue in other cities after Gdansk. Senior citizens from the Tri-City and surrounding areas who would like to share a part of their personal memories have been invited to take part in the project. Each week of the exhibition will be dedicated to one person and the video recordings of their speech will be available in the gallery space and online on the LAZNIA’s website within the project duration only. The recorded video will also be given to all participants and their families as a new memory along with a dedication from the artist.
